Dreadlocks Denver FAQ

Dreadlocks Denver FAQ

What questions do you have about dreadlocks? Leave a comment below!

Are dreadlocks permanent?

NO, dreadlocks do not have to be a permanent commitment! It is often believed you have to cut out and/or shave your head if you no longer want dreads, but they can definitely be combed out.

How do you wash dreadlocks?

Washing dreads is not too different from washing undreaded hair! Despite the stereotypes of dirty dreadlocks, it is not difficult to keep dreadlocks clean and beautiful. A residue-free shampoo is preferred and always to remember to RINSE, RINSE, RINSE! Additionally, you only need to apply shampoo to your scalp. As you rinse, shampoo will organically work its way down the bodies of your dreads!

How often do you wash them?

Ideally, one would wash their locks once a week to once every 2 weeks. All of our clients’ needs are different (feel free to discuss individual needs at the time of your appointment). With that said, locks may benefit from less frequent washing for the first two months after a dreadlock installation!

What is the crochet hook method?

We believe it is the best possible method of creating and maintaining a dreadlock style. Utilizing a tiny .60 mm crochet hook, we can tie incredibly small knots in the hair, giving us the capability to form, tighten, repair and reattach dreadlocks. It works well on every hair type, does not require any product and does not damage the hair.

Do you offer dreadlock extensions?

YES! We create custom dreadlock extensions using 100% human hair to ensure a seamless finish. If you are interested in dreadlock extensions, you must book a free extensions consultation before booking extension services!

How much do you charge for your services?

We charge an hourly rate of $60 per hour for dreadlock installation, maintenance and repair/reattachment appointments. If you are interested in dreadlock extensions, we charge $15 per extension + the labor it takes to install them. For example, if a client wanted 20 extensions and it took 5 hours to install them, the cost would be: $300 (20 extensions at $15 per extension) + $300 (5 hours of labor at $60 per hour) = $600 (service total price).

Do I need to leave a deposit to book an appointment?

The following services require a consultation + non-refundable, $100 security deposit to be booked: installations, extension installations and major repair appointments requiring more than 4 hours. All deposits, except those for extension installations, will go towards your service total price on the day of your appointment.

What is your cancellation policy?

We do not charge an additional fee for cancellations. If your scheduled service required a deposit, however, it is non-refundable. If we are notified at least 48 hours before your appointment time, we will allow one rescheduling opportunity for appointments needing to be cancelled. If the rescheduled service required an initial deposit, it will still go towards your service total price (excludes extension installations).

What is your late policy?

If you are 20 minutes late to your appointment, it will be cancelled or rescheduled. If you are less than 20 minutes late to your appointment, you will be charged the hourly rate starting from your scheduled appointment time.

Can people with straight hair have dreadlocks?

YES! Dreadlocks can be easily created on any and every hair type!

What about people with thin hair?

We have had many clients voice concerns about their hair being too thin for dreads, but this sectioned style typically ads volume and actually helps thin-haired clients attain a fuller and more voluminous look. We can also use creative sectioning to minimize the amount of scalp showing (if desired).

Is Dreadlocks Denver accessible for clients with disabilities?

YES! The Workshops has a private parking lot with accessible spots available. Additionally, there is a large service elevator available for use (as my studio-salon is on the second floor) and the building is well-lit. It is important to note that I want to serve, support and uplift ALL members of the Dreadlocks Denver community – so if there is anything we can do to make your appointment more comfortable, please do not hesitate to ask!
